Michael Carrick’s final game before retirement ended in victory as Manchester United beat Watford at Old Trafford.
The 36-year-old, who will now join United’s coaching staff, helped set up Marcus Rashford’s goal in his 464th appearance for the club.
Carrick, who was given a guard of honour as he walked onto the pitch with his children before the game, lofted a pass to Juan Mata, who squared for Rashford to score in the 34th minute.
It was one of only two moments of excitement in an otherwise soporific half, the other coming when United goalkeeper Sergio Romero made a stunning one-handed save to deny Richarlison just before the break.
